The London Borough of Barnet is a London borough in North London, and the largest borough in London by population. It has a significant Jewish community, particularly in the Hendon area.

Between 2010 and 2022, the council awarded significant contracts including the £3 billion Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration with Argent (Property Development) Services LLP, the single largest local authority development partnership in the UK.

Mark Shooter

Mark Shooter has served as a councillor for Hendon ward since 2010. He was Mayor of Barnet (2015-16) and Chairman of the Barnet Pension Fund Committee (2014-2022).

Barnet Pension Fund

The council administers the Barnet Pension Fund, one of the largest LGPS funds in London (over £1.5 billion). A section 114 notice was issued in January 2025 over unlawful pension fund payments. Barnet was the first UK local authority to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism (2017) and councillor Brian Gordon proposed banning BDS organisations from council premises (2018). No Barnet councillors signed the 2026 London CIV divestment campaign letter.
