Notes

Hasmonean High School is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status for pupils from Orthodox Jewish families, located in Hendon, London Borough of Barnet. The boys’ school is at Holders Hill Road, Hendon, NW4 1NA. It is part of the Hasmonean Multi-Academy Trust. The school was founded by Rabbi Solomon Schonfeld in 1944 as Hasmonean Grammar School, originally in Golders Green, moving to Holders Hill Road three years later.

Notable Alumni in Finance

Hasmonean has produced an unusual concentration of hedge fund founders among its alumni:

  • Alan Howard — Co-founder of Brevan Howard Asset Management (net worth £2.5 billion). The only finance figure listed in Wikipedia’s “Notable former pupils” section.
  • Noam Gottesman — Co-founder of GLG Partners (sold to Man Group for $1.6 billion in 2010). May have been in the same class as Howard. Also co-founded Nomad Foods.
  • Mark Shooter — Founder of Shooter Fund Management (volatility arbitrage, 2004-2007). His brothers Simon and Ben Shooter also attended and went into hedge fund/FX trading.

The Hasmonean alumni blog “melchett mike” (melchettmike.wordpress.com) documents the school’s history and culture but does not focus on the finance network specifically.
